A stunning debut from Donohue in a gothic romance. Told through a now and then narrative we experience the dissaperance of a school girl and teacher.

Louisa arrives at Temple House quickly drawn to Victoria and teacher Mr Lavelle. An obvious bond forms allowing them to escape from the repressive Catholic world they're living in with Nuns who control the school but Louisa and Mr Lavelle soon vanish.

It is then we are told years later through a journalist how the dissaperance  unfolded as she tries to resolve the mystery. Searching for the truth reveals a true trajedy as the trio tried to bury lustrous secrets however the book ends very beautifully with a poetic epilogue.

The writing style is atmospheric which creates stunning imagery evoking the readers feelings as we experience passion, greed and teenage angst. I was engrossed as the story was slowly revealed as the two timelines caught up with each other.
