Haunting and mysterious
3.5 stars. Two girls board at a catholic school in the 1990s where infatuation is rife. With each other and also the enigmatic Art teacher, Mr Lavelle. Fast forward to the present where a journalist is trying to solve the mystery of the scandal that rocked the school and resulted in the disappearance of one of the girls and Mr Lavelle.
A real slow burner which crept along at a snail’s pace, but was written so beautifully that it never felt laborious, instead it felt like a haunting and hypnotic read, each sentence and paragraph carefully filled with meaning. It didn’t have me on the edge of my seat but it was definitely a well written and interesting book, with an original ending which I really enjoyed.
