Slow. This book dragged on with nothing really happening. I would have given up if it weren’t for a sense of duty having been given a free copy in exchange for an honest review. Nothing really happens except for pages and pages of ‘atmospheric’ descriptions and the circular thought processes of 2D characters. And they were 2D, we never learnt much about them; they become obsessed with Mr Lavelle, yet we get no real reason why, he has no personality or depth (this is probably the intended purpose as we learn of him through the infatuation of school girls) and there is nothing to consolidate this obsession.

The ending was predictable, and just took a wordy route to get there. This would have worked better as a short story.

I liked the last sentence, it did fit the skull symbolism of the story together nicely and is perhaps what made me decide on two stars, not one.
