I really enjoyed this book because it was quaintly old fashioned. The character of the mother was extremely colourful. She was a very bossy, over bearing wife and mother. She was gelous of her favourite daughter and angry that her life hadn't been as good as it could have been. The two sisters had been raised very differently, so had different outlooks on life. They had different ideas on what happiness was all about. Throughout the book, they start to understand each other. They realise they are different because of the way their mother treated them. It is interesting to see two very nieve young women find their separate ways in the world. In the end, they realise that blood is thicker than water. However, they want different things from life, so they go their separate ways for the time being. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am thankful to the author.
