Jonathan Cranston has written a brilliant book about his experiences as a vet working both in practices in the UK and throughout the world - hence the very apt title 'A Travelling Vet'. The author describes his difficulty in gaining a place on a course to study veterinary science and his determination to follow his ambitions. Readers will be delighted he did indeed succeed in becoming a vet as it has given him the material for this very enjoyable book. Each chapter is based on his experience working with a different kind of animal from very small domestic and farmyard animals to his work with large animals and his conservation work. Most of this book is very upbeat and, at times, amusing however there is another, more serious, message about the problems of poaching and animals being killed and maimed needlessly. The author has included information about each animal and about the various conservation organisations. He has struck a perfect balance between the light-hearted and serious natures of his work and hopefully he'll go on to write more about his work and adventures.
