A sinister, enthralling thriller
What can I possibly say about this book other than "stop reading my review and read The Twisted Tree!"?
After reading this book in one sitting, I found that I had completely lost myself in Martha's adventure. I loved the contrast between the supernatural and common coming-of-age issues such as dealing with grief, feeling different and falling in love. I felt that while I could relate to the protagonist on a personal level, I was also able to let my imagination run wild within the vast realms of Norse mythology; having that realistic connection with our main character makes the far-fetched aspects of the book seem vivid and plausible.
Burge's book is perfect for those days when you don't feel like committing to a series but instead want to escape for a few hours, feeling satisfied with a resolution by the end of the book.
