I could not put this book down! I read this in one sitting whilst on holiday. The author, Rachel Burge, did such a great job of setting the scene and giving a creepy and suspenseful feel to the book. The tension mounted as the book went on, so much so that I found myself reading faster and faster to keep up! I really enjoyed the way nordic mythology and a good old ghost story were cleverley woven together to create something original yet with a familiar feel. The characters were perhaps a touch two-dimensional but I think this is to be expected in young adult fiction. I have since bought the sequel and am really looking forward to reading it, I have high hopes that it will live up to the high bar set by this book. All in all, a perfectly creepy read for halloween time or simply to curl up with in front of the fire on these dark and eerie winter nights.
