Martha has run away from home; after losing her sight in one eye, she can now feel peoples emotions through the slightest touch of clothing. Knowing her grandmother Mormor, who lives in a little village in Norway, might be able to explain what's happening to her, she decides to go and find her. When she arrives at her grandmothers cabin, her grandmother isn't there, but an intruder, in the shape of a young boy, is. Together they have to work out the mystery of her grandmothers disappearance, finding more secrets than answers, all pointing to a mysterious twisted tree at the bottom of the garden.

I think I was expecting so much more from this book. I felt that at times, the story was rushed, almost like the author had run out of things to say. The ending has been left wide open for a follow up book, but I'm not sure how much more could be written.
