Scary supernatual thriller tied up with Norse mythology

A genuinely scary read. The Twisted Tree follows the story of Martha who sets off to visit her Mormor in Norway only to find things are not as they seem and the supernatural world is tied up with the living. Scarred from an accident, Martha has developed the gift of being able to read people's emotions by touching their clothes and it is a gift that has been passed down through the female lines in her family tree. There is a physical Twisted Tree in the garden playing on this theme which needs to be taken care of in order to keep the world of the living and the afterlife separate.

The Twisted Tree is a Young Adult novel but I enjoyed this as a 30-something and it blended mythology and teen drama well.
