The extract from this book intrigued me pretty much right away, with the talk of a new historical document found which sheds light on who truly discovered America. I liked the detail given about the types of material (including inks) used and the testing which it underwent to try to determine its authenticity. The characters appealed to me, with a number of interesting characters mentioned - If I had to pick favourite characters, I'd say its a split between Emilio and Nancy.

The document aside, the extract featured a nice amount of atmospheric detail which intrigued me as well. There's quite a mysterious and somewhat sinister feel to it. It seemed quite an immersive read.

The mention of Vikings also intrigued me, I suppose mainly from a historical viewpoint, although I realise this is a novel. I also wasn't aware of the language, or dialect, Genoese, which is mentioned in passing.

It all sounds quite intriguing and I'd be happy to read the full text and give my opinion on it if im lucky enough to win a copy. If I had to say anything negative, all I can think is that it may be a little long winded perhaps? but its very difficult to tell given I could only read through the first few pages, of course. I'm sure it'll be a good read all the same though, so im going for a 4 star rating.
