The Wayward Girls is certainly a great read; it's captivating and clever how Amanda Mason has woven together the past and the present into one haunting mystery.

Although the book isn't perhaps one I would normally go for, I really enjoyed the eerie atmosphere that it created and I liked learning about all of the different characters. Something that I found particularly interesting was the fact that there were so many different stories running alongside each other at once: Cathy at Blue Jacket House; Michael, Simon, Isobel (and Olivia) investigating in the past (with Bee and Loo); and Nina, Hal and Lewis (with Lucy) investigating in the present. I thought that the characters were well written and, in general, the plot was very clever.

However, although I really enjoyed this book, I found the ending slightly confusing as it left me with many unanswered questions. I know that this is often a technique used by writers in these types of stories - to make the reader still feel uneasy and on edge afterwards - but I wanted more detail about what happened exactly in the Barn.

In conclusion, I unexpectedly enjoyed this book and the way it was written. Although haven't necessarily read that many books from this genre, I am now interested in reading more!
