During the long hot summer of 1976, a family living on an isolated farm experience paranormal activity mainly centred around the two older daughters of the house. A team comes in to investigate the claims and eventually publish a book on their findings. Fast forward to the present and another team of students revisit the farm to investigate. They contact the mother of the family (Cathy) to help them with their investigations but as she has dementia one of the daughters, Loo, begrudgingly agrees to help them. As you can imagine, this does not go particularly well and through the re-telling of the tale from past to present we eventually find out what really happened during the '70s.

The inter-family dynamics between the children and their mother was well written. At the beginning of the book they were not portrayed as believable but as the story progressed (and you discover what actually happened) they became more real. I found "only children don't really get it" the most apt quote from the book in respect of explaining sibling relationships!

The author cleverly set the book in 1976, a year before the real tale of the Enfield Hauntings started, so the family could not be accused of copying this. However, the plot has borrowed an awful lot from this real life event.

This turns out to be a decent spooky tale, yes there were a few holes in the plot and the switching from past to present sometimes became confusing. However it was an enjoyable read and I can definitely see this as a TV miniseries in a few years time.
