The weight of him is a story about one family and their grief at losing a loved one. The Brennan family have lost Michael, the oldest of the three children and this is very much a book about how grief affects them all, but especially the father Billy. Billy is a 400lb man who is literally weighed down by sadness. He decides to shed half his bodyweight and raise awareness for suicide prevention.
The author really captured the emotions of each family member and the effects that suicide has on a small community.
All the way through the book, I found myself rooting for Billy. He doesn't always have the support of those around him, but doing the only thing he can to make things right, he proceeds on his journey.
Sad and thought provoking, I really enjoyed it.
