I was so pleased to have won this sequel to one of my favourite books of last year and it didn’t disappoint.

The characters are all still either evil or morally-grey, for the most part, and that makes for an enjoyable read. These are ‘proper’ fairies, like from the oldest stories, and power drives the majority of them.

Twists and turns and betrayals were aplenty, and kept me turning the pages. It really is an addictive series and I particularly enjoyed the descriptions of the little differences between the Folk’s appearances... So much fun and very imaginative.

I’m still unsure if our cruel prince, now wicked king, is truly cruel or wicked. Clever of Holly Black to spark such confusion in me, even after two books. Looking forward to the next instalment!
