From the first page I was instantly drawn in, Jusmde has grown in confidence and has become merciless and cold blooded, however still retains love for her family. The amount of betrayals both by and to Jude in the previous book had left her in a precarious position, yet Holly Black managed to convey Jude's emotions and emotional development perfectly.
As you would expect from Black, there are plenty of plot twists, and Jude's relationship with Cardan was given time to flourish, and at the climax of the book, the trope was completed, or so I thought.
Cardan is a complex character, and working through his difficult childhood and relationships with his family, and Jude's betrayal, has left him cold blooded. I loved watching the cast of characters develop, and new characters being brought in.
