**Naturally this will probably contain some spoilers for The Cruel Prince, so if you haven't read that yet, I strongly suggest you do before reading The Wicked King or even this review. There are NO major spoilers for The Wicked King.**

Oh my God. This book is just. Wow. It's so damn good!! If you've already read The Cruel Prince and enjoyed it, you should definitely be reading The Wicked King. If you haven't read it yet I have no idea what you're waiting for because that was one killer cliffhanger at the end of The Cruel Prince and I have no idea how you're still surviving in that awful suspense.

The book starts off and finally - FINALLY - we get to find out what happened after those final events in The Cruel Prince. We return to the magical realm of Elfhame once more, and all our favourite characters are present (unfortunately, so are the not-so-likable ones). What little that has happened over the five month gap from the end of the first book is revealed to us soon after the start, so it really doesn't feel like you've missed anything.

Cardan is as cruel as ever. Not only does his character grow, but also his and Jude's relationship, problematic as ever, really develops in this book, which was fun to watch. You learn so much more information about him, some making you pity him more, the rest making you despise him even more.

In this book we get to see so much more than what we did in The Cruel Prince of some of the background characters, particularly Nicasia, which I really enjoyed because I felt like I understood her character and where her loyalties actually lie much better in the book. We also get a few new characters which was super exciting to see!!

If you thought the tension was high in The Cruel Prince, you'll be in for a surprise. The anticipation I felt reading every single page was exhilarating and unreal but at the same time it kept me anxious for like 100% of the book which was lowkey terrifying lol

The only downside to this book was the fact that Holly Black has yet again ended an amazing book on a major cliffhanger. I have no idea how I'm going to be able to get through the next year without The Queen of Nothing because I NEED to know what happens next!!
