I’ve always enjoyed the world of Holly Black, even though, as a rule, I read stand-alone novels as opposed to series.

Whilst this, unfortunately, was not my favourite of Black’s novels, (that accolade still belongs to the Cruel Prince and I think will do for some time) I did prefer this novel to the first one in the series and enjoyed the fact that the characters appeared to ‘grow into themselves’ more in this one. This is something that I really hope continues in the third volume.
One factor that I notice, having read the majority of Black’s books is that the writing is sometimes overly samey in places, but then a lot of young adult titles are guilty of this simply because the formula works. As ever, the book cover is beautiful.
