The Wicked King by Holly Black is the second book in her Folk of the Air trilogy and one I think that gets better and better. If you were on the fence after The Cruel Prince, you'll fall fast and hard for the world and adventures in The Wicked King.
Naturally there was more world-setting in the first book and it feels like there's more room for the author to play with her characters in this one, there was some surprising twists and turns that I didn't see coming. The tricksy nature of the fae means that there's unexpected developments, allegiances and underhand bargains going on.
Jude as a characters is simply brilliant. Feisty, strong-willed and courageous, you can't help cheering her on throughout the book and Cardan is an enigma that we get to see a lot more of. Their relationship and their relationships with their families makes for interesting reading. All in all, a brilliant fantasy read and one I highly recommend.
