Holly Black is an incredible author with a talent for weaving magical lands and characters that feel so genuine and relatable, that you feel part of the story yourself. The raw immersive qualities to Black's writings are what drew me into this new series.
The second instalment sees Jude to continue protecting her brother, through her clever manipulation and cunning, and her pawn - The King. While Cardan is bound to Jude, the end of this arrangement is fast approaching and Jude must go to extreme lengths to protect those she cares about and pushing herself to the limit.
The relationship between Cardan and Jude continues to develop and echos similaries between real-life that makes the story feel more realistic. However Cardan's character still feels too shallow for me and he hasn't quite had the character development that I was hoping for.
Despite this, I will still continue with the series, in the hopes of finding this character development in the next instalment.
