Honestly, The Wicked King was a huge step up from The Cruel Prince. We jump in a few months after the ending of The Cruel Prince and get to see the aftermath of Jude’s scheming to get the crown.To all those around them, Jude is just the high kings mortal seneschal. A confidant and advisor to the king. What is really happening however is that Jude is really a puppet master to Cardan controlling him through a bargain they made in the cruel prince. With a traitor in her midst jude really has no one she can trust.
We really get to see the growth of Cardan throughout the book as he goes from a spoilt, cruel and viscous prince to a truly wicked king. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Cardan previously but I can now say I am totally in love with him!!
The only thing I really needed was to see an even bigger development between Cardan and Jude’s relationship. However if you enjoyed The Cruel Prince then definitely pick up The Wicked King.
