This is a wonderful, fantastical story set in a parallel magical world to our own. The books follow a mortal girl called Jude living in Elfhelm with her twin sister taken from the mortal world by a redcap she now calls her father.
‘The Wicked King’ now follows Jude as she acts as Cardan’s (the king) seneschal. This book puts Jude in a completely new environment.
I really enjoyed this book although, it was my least favourite of the series. This book focuses more on politics and strategy with a few action scenes dotted throughout.
I will never not love Jude and her relationship with Cardan. This book explored their ever changing relationship in a lot more dept. If you’re a lover of the enemies to lover trope then you’re bound to love this book.
I really like how Holly Black captures this other fantastical world. She has an ability to explain scenarios without telling us what is happening. This style of writing connects the audience and creates such a strong bond. You feel for the characters and their situations, especially Jude.
I gave this book a four star rating as it was a little slow in parts however, if you’re into politics and strategy etc. it could be a quick read for you.
