I loved this book. The first one was slower paced however this one I could not put down. It had me on the edge of my seat and the way Holly Black portrays her characters is amazing. I was feeling hatred, love, confusion with our main character Jude and I enjoyed watching her and Cardans relationship begin to develop into a bond. I also enjoyed that we got to delve deeper into Cardans character as during this book we find out more why he acts as he does. Why he is considered ‘cruel.’ Despite not being a romance, the book had enough swoony moments for me to stay happy and enticed throughout. Also, the main character is amazing. I love Jude wholeheartedly! She is strong, independent and even though we saw her in the first book ‘fall in love with Locke’ she doesn’t let the fact he’s married her sister bother her. She doesn’t need anyone so although I am rooting for her and Cardan- she doesn’t need that romance to define her character.
