Despite the first book not meeting up to my expectations this book was indeed very interesting. The world theme, following from 'The Cruel Prince' was still intricately built. The overall theme of faeries giving an interesting plot setting to draw readers in is succeeding however the world building can definitely be more fleshed out to make it clear for the smaller details such as political and magical parts of it.

The character arc of Jude had been slightly better due to a good time pace. 'The Cruel Prince' had forced many things upon her character arc in such a short time, making it feel really rushed. Though the time skip in The Wicked King makes everything more realistic with the pace of the story.

The dynamic of Cardan and Jude had also significantly improved, bringing more interactions between them and key moments. The still toxic like relationship intrigues any reader on how this is resolved and developed due to the lack of other love interests which leaves the book far more interesting.

Though the overall plot does require some improving and clear stance towards it. This books is a great follow up of 'The Cruel Prince' and will interest anyone who loves fantasy romances with a slight dark tinge.
