Continuing on from the cruel prince, we see more intrigue and deception with these characters that we are now rooting for or hate with every fibre of our being. You’d think after the first book that there is no way the shock factor could compete with what happened in the throne room which gives off the red wedding (game of thrones) vibes but this book really stands up to its predecessor. Family lies, unthinkable alliances, bravery from one human who walks around like a badass and makes me think that i too could take own a court of fae. The characters are complex and funny, written so beautifully that i find myself laughing out loud in some chapters and wanting to jump into the pages and kill someone in another. Now the ending; well holly black really knows how to make a reader drop whatever they are doing and rush to pick up the final instalment of the series!
