After reading The Cruel Prince in one sitting last year, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. The story picks up around 5 months after the events at the end of The Cruel Prince and the story sucked me in so it felt like I had read The Cruel Prince just yesterday.

Once again Jude we see Jude try to navigate her life in Faerie, only this time the stakes are much higher, and not just for herself. She has schemes upon schemes in play and from very early on you can tell that the strain is beginning to show. I liked that some fairly minor characters from the first book made reappearances and I also felt that the new characters introduced were good additions.

Due to real life getting in the way, I read this one in 4 sittings, but I have to say that it was a huge struggle to put it down each time as I just wanted to keep reading. I don't know what it is about Holly Black's prose but it always sweeps me away. Roll on January 2020 for the next book in the series.
