Honestly, this book is still my absolute favourite out of the whole series. I really loved how badass Jude was throughout the entire book, it was exciting throughout and everything continued to escalate and escalate but I didn’t feel like the previous chapters had been slow when I’d been reading them because they each had their own stakes.
I love drunk Cardan. I don’t know why, but this aspect really sold it for me. He has the highest position, all this pressure, didn’t want a single thing he now has, so what does he do? Get drunk and throw parties 24/7. Absolutely loved that. And then Jude and Cardan’s banter about her control over him is just <3 mwah.
And the ending...yes. I know it’s very generic for the second novel in a trilogy to have an upsetting/cliffhanger ending, but I loved this one. I especially liked how it was conclusive in itself, and didn’t overtly imply that there was a third book to be written (although there inevitably was) but was still dramatic and upsetting in itself.
