This book is the second book in the Folk of the air trilogy and I absolutely loved this one! I think I even enjoyed it more than the first which is rare for a second book. But this one was packed full with action, betrayal and intrigue. I loved how much more the characters were developed and my love for Jude just grew and grew. The slow burn enemies to lovers romance is also incredible.
Jude has tricked Cardan onto the throne, binding him to her for a year and a day. But the new High King does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her. Meanwhile, a traitor is scheming against her. Jude must fight for her life and also battle her own complicated feelings for Cardan. Now a year and a day seems like no time at all.
What I love about these books is how unpredictable they are. They are filled with so many twists and turns, nothing is ever boring. I devoured this book and can't wait to read book 3 after that cliff-hanger of an ending. These books have everything; murder, magic, desire and betrayal and I recommend them to any YA fantasy lovers. They are also really good for people wanting to dip their toes into fantasy. Holly Black is a fantastic writer making fantasy accessible to everyone.
