Jude has tricked Carden into being the High King and for him to serve her for a year and a day.. something which he is not too happy about. He does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her, yet still he is fascinated with her when he doesn't want to be. Jude, meanwhile, not only has an immature Prince to deal with, she has new enemies and old ones, trying to placate acquaintances from the many deals she has made, and someone close to her is making a move for her downfall. Her ambitions and cunning might just be the end of the power Jude has worked so hard to obtain.
This has a blend of desire, betrayal, many treacherous court politics and schemes. I found the first 200 pages to be heavily entrenched in court politics and Jude trying to maintain her power through any means necessary. It wasn't until the 200 page mark that Jude actually was involved in some action... which made dents and changes to her plans, and things started to pick up and be a bit more interesting. Hence the 3.5 stars of this book.
I am still shocked at the ending and would love to know Jude's next move to hopefully get some much deserved revenge.... against many people.
