Honestly, after having read the Cruel Prince i wasn’t exactly expecting much from the second book in its series, so i was actually pleasantly surprised to see how it had redeemed the series slightly and was so much better in mostly every way.
First of, Cruel Prince had already ended on one hell of a plot twist and not only did this book explore the consequences of that plot twist so well, they also developed on both Jude and Carden’s relationship after that plot twist. I love the back and forth almost cat and mouse dynamic they have and it was super interesting to read about.
Also, this book bought in so much more court politics and manipulation which i personally love in fantasy books. The book had so many ups and downs, especially with dealing with everyone’s relationships and their own characters. As well as making me love some characters more, this book made me absolutely loathe certain characters (cough cough Taryn).
Overall, i definitely recommend, especially if you- like me- were disappointed by Cruel Prince.
