It was only the beginning of the book and I was very interested. I am a big fan of fantasy books and I think this one I will add to my shelf to read. It captured my attention in the first chapter, I will make sure to read more once I get the book.
But on to the actual review, I loved the way how the author was able to include multiple characters in a few short paragraphs without forcing them into the plot. It has a lot of show and not tell giving us details making it sound natural and giving us background on the main character. With all the dialogue and action it helps me see what kind of person that character is and kind of how it has to do with the plot. In the beginning it also already has a goal for the reader to know what the whole goal is of the main character. I don;t think I've ever read a book that has captured my attention in less then a chapter. I will make sure to read other stories by Holly Black. She is a very good author and I hope to read more from her.
