I loved this excerpt. The opening felt slightly too expositiony to me to begin with, but it was a really great hook.
I also love how the story moves back and forth between present and past and different moments in between, and how the story is told through different mediums - i.e. a letter, a news story and first person accounts.
I get the feeling that none of these characters are entirely what they seem!
