I like that the book starts with a diary entry so we know the main character, the first Mrs Ford, is called Nina, this is also appropriate to the cover of the book. The first sentence already creates suspense and mystery and the rest of the first paragraph makes you side with Nina initially until you read on and get different character viewpoints which makes you start to sympathise with the young love birds thirteen years ago. Throughout the book, it makes you second guess who the good guys are and who is in it for the money. It uncovers a lot of twists and turns which keep you reading more. It helps that the author's style of writing is good, descriptive yet straight to the point making it an easy read.
