The Windsor Knot is a detective story with a difference. When a Russian dancer ends up dead during a overnight visit to Windsor castle a massive police investigation follows. However doing her own investigative work on the side is HM Queen Elizabeth II. This book is really charming, with a touch of Agatha Christie. What I enjoyed most was not so much the central mystery but all the detail that embellishes it. You quickly feel as if you have known the Queen all your life (which most of us have) and that of course in her spare time she solves crime. The book is highly original and well thought through. The only criticism I have is that there were a lot of characters so I found myself somewhat struggling to follow at times. However it didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story, I very much look forward to future instalments in this series!
