This is a very unique twist on a detective tale in that the Queen is the undercover detective. The Queen takes the central role ably assisted by Rozie a relative newcomer to the Queen's staff as Assistant Private Secretary. She is instantly likeable and you warm to her quickly. You can see that her character will develop as the books continue.
Rozie reports to Sir Simon Holcroft and he seems nice enough but I am still not too sure about his character.
Not only is this a great mystery about a young Russian's murder it feels like a backstage peek as to what goes on behind the scenes at the Queen's residences and I found I didnt want to put the book down and read it in about 5 days as its easy to read and up to date with current affairs.
This is the first in a set of books that S.J. Bennett is writing which is exciting when you like the book as it means there is more to come!
