I love a good murder mystery so was really keen to read this book. Instead of your usual weary detective, the sleuth is none other than the Queen!

The Queen is hosting a dine and sleep party for a number of guests at Windsor Castle. The following day one of the guests is found dead. A handsome, and very talented Russian pianist has lost his life in Windsor Castle in what seems to be rather sordid circumstances. It transpires his death wasn’t accidental, as first thought, and M15 step in to investigate.

The Queen calls on her new secretary to find out more information. MI5 are convinced the Russians are behind the killing but the Queen has other ideas.

The characters in this book are well done and I found myself wanting to have a gin and Dubonnet with the Queen while discussing true crime 😂 I wonder what she makes of the book!

I particularly liked the character of the secretary, Rozie. At first, she’s new to the job and feels uncertain of what to do but the relationship between her and the Queen builds and between them they solve the murder.

The reveal of the murderer did seem a bit convoluted but that didn’t really matter as the appeal for me was the characters.

Some parts I found a bit slow but I’m used to fast paced thrillers.

I enjoyed this book and found it was a light and humorous read.

I understand there are going to be more books in this series and I look forward to reading them.
