I really enjoyed this book. I was expecting it to be a bit twee with a comedy death probably involving a corgi and the crown jewels, but I was wrong! It is in fact, a proper murder mystery with quite a graphic death and a murderer that I hadn't guessed until it was revealed. The Queen wasn't skulking through Windsor Castle at night with a magnifying glass collecting clues, like I also expected. Instead it was what I imagine is a realistic view of how the Queen would solve a murder. She instructs her secretary to carry out discreet interviews and fact finding missions. Once reported back, the Queen comes to her own conclusions and plants little hints and ideas, casually into conversations with the detectives who are determined to uncover a Russian spy plot. It's a very well written book and as such I don't think I'll ever be able to see the Queen as anything other than a majestic yet accomplished, amature sluth!
