This truly was a dream to read. Through mindful and methodic masterminding her Majesty secretly seizes the reins (or should that be her reign?!) and stays two steps ahead of her most highly trained security detail and the MET’s top investigators.

And the best thing is she does it all under their noses and they have absolutely no idea what she’s up to!

When your diary and even your wardrobe is planned weeks, if not months ahead, it would take a confident and intelligently nimble person to achieve such a feat, but the new ‘Queen’ of Crime breezed through this murder mystery with a touch of enigmatic class.

You’d be wrong in thinking her character resembles an ermine caped crusader, it’s way more subtle than that. Between high teas with VIPs and the presence of the Privy Council, a highly sensitive moral compass directs every ounce of this ninety year old’s wisdom, grace and diplomacy toward the truth behind a recently expired house guest.

The telling of this story positively twinkles with a very special charm. Its voice perfectly portrays each character and their individual personalities from the loyal to the royal without stereotyping. Philip’s playfully hostile observations together with his morale boosting gifts were particularly entertaining.

I thoroughly enjoyed it and at the end of the book I was delighted to learn the surprisingly self-effacing, covertly meddling monarch is set to return! One really should keep an eye open for her :)
