This was a very unusual preface for a book: a crime that is solved by The Queen. The characters are well rounded, some factual and some fictional, and they all take on their own personalities as the book progresses. It is also an excellently written book by an author that clearly has a vast knowledge of real places, but puts them into the concept of a fictional novel so we can both imagine where these things happened without them actually happening, which is a key element of a good, and sophisticated writer. There are also elements of comedy, so it crosses many different genres, but it never loses the key focus. Also, a knowledge of the British Royal Family, the Windsors, also helps us to understand the pun in the title of the book, the Windsor Knot, which has both literal and figurative meanings throughout the book. A great book for a fun read, but also with an engaging story.
