The 1960s were a fascinating time with so many changes and the strike by women at the Dagenham factory in 1968 for equal pay for equal work highlighted the change in women's thinking of their true worth in the workplace. Stephanie Butland's novel moves between 2018 and the events at the Dagenham factory 50 years before. The Woman In The photograph is a novel but, from reading the 'First Look' my 'First Impression' is that a lot of the content will be of great interest to those readers, like myself, who grew up at this time and were very aware of the important changes both in the workplace and socially that women were striving for. This book will also appeal to all readers interested in these changes. Many people are aware of the Dagenham strike through the film Made In Dagenham and the stage musical but reading about it and the broader changes taking place at the time will be interesting and informative for readers of all ages. The book's central character is Veronica Moon, a photographer and Leonie Barratt, a journalist, and centres on their relationship. I'm very much looking forward to reading the rest of this book.
