Feminist literature isn't a genre I have previously explored in much depth. And I'm not entirely sure why. However, The Woman in the Photograph seems to be as good a place as any to start.
The prose and dialogue are really quite engaging and I also love the focus on photography here, and Veronica's clear passion for it. I am definitely one to read anything with a bit of photography in it!
That the prejudices women faced in the 60's could just as easily be a description of modern misogyny gives an odd feeling that is only dispelled by the pride I feel of the women who protested against their inequality. This book will most definitely be an empowering read.
The sepia-like colour scheme of the cover is really lovely and gives the intended quality of a photograph. I would certainly not be opposed to displaying this book on my shelves, though I am unlikely to have picked it up based on the cover alone.
I will most definitely be acquiring this book at some point and reading on; I am certainly intrigued by Veronica's story and the journey she will make throughout the novel.
