The two main characters in this book are very different and yet are drawn together in a love/hate compelling friendship lasting throughout Leonie's life and beyond. She is a strident feminist ahead of her time who cannot always get published because of this and seems constantly angry.
On the other hand Vee begins the story as a fairly conventional young woman, engaged with a job as a photographer on a local paper in a man's world as it is seen at the time. Her world is completely changed when she meets Leonie.
I like the way the chapters are divided, each section beginning with a description of the photograph in the exhibition of Vee's work, with notes on some key events happening in the world at the time.
The story is written in sections from the perspective of each character, starting in 1968 with the birth of feminism and brings us right up to date.
