The cover was bright and eye-catching, but the title made me wonder “what is this novel about?”. I read the blurb and I could form an idea of what this novel was going to be like.
However, when I read the extract I was quite confused. First of all, the most prominent and important parts in the blurb seem to be quite the opposite in the novel. For example, Cecily has only been mentioned once. But I am assuming the four chapters I read were were set ‘before’ the events in the blurb happen.
I also haven’t read any other novels written by this author, so maybe I’m just not used to the writing style. But this novel focuses so, so much on food. I guess it fits in with the point of the cookbook given by Cecily.
Overall, the writing style fits the genre but is still not my thing. I feel like the plot is not very strong.
