This is at times both a funny and sad book but one that is overall inspirational.
Kate is at a crossroads in her life – she has a partner who is giving mixed signals about their relationship, a job that she may or may not lose and is now living back with her mother. She does however have good and mostly loyal friends who assist her to navigate her life challenges.
Added to her existing friendships is the one she develops with Cecily, a somewhat challenging elderly lady who lives in a residential home. Kate first meets her when she chooses to volunteer to provide cooking lessons but these are frostily received by Cecily as is Kate. However Cecily does provide Kate with a cookbook that soon comes to be her anchor in life and which ultimately leads to her reconsidering her life options. It is through their discussions of food and cooking that their relationship develops and grows. Kate learns much about cooking and much about living and loving from Cecily.
A very enjoyable and hunger inducing book.
