I really enjoyed this book.
This is a delicious book, with a love of food, and food writing at the heart of it. Discovering that one of the main characters, and the central book were in fact based on real life people only made it more appealing.
Kate is about to turn 40 when her boyfriend has a wobble about her moving in whilst they are on holiday in France. Kate enforces a complete break while he decides what he wants, and to fill her newly spare time volunteers at an old peoples home for ladies. There she meets Cecily, and an unusual but genuine friendship slowly develops.
I genuinely liked both of the main characters, although the character of Cecily was slower to be developed.
The writing about food was joyous, and I can see people dipping in for menu inspiration.
A great book.
