This book is about a woman nearing her 40th birthday named Kate Parker. She’s going through a rough patch with her relationship and feels like she’s in a dead end, especially because she felt her life was beginning to make sense at the beginning of the book. Instead, she finds herself lost and broken, as st the same time her placement in her job is under scrutiny. She turns to volunteering at a nursing home for exceptional old women as an outlet for her stress, and meets the sharp, forward Cecily Finn. The rest of the book, without giving any spoilers, follows a simple plot, and I found it generally underwhelming. I tried really hard to enjoy it, and sometimes I did get into it- I genuinely rooted for Kate- but putting the book down and getting back into it was so difficult, as I just felt bombarded by the theme of food- it was just too on the nose for me. However, I did enjoy lots of it too! It wasn’t a bad book at all, just maybe a little bit forced.
