I really enjoyed this, I don't tend to read this genre and didn't appreciate there can be stories that have a depth of character to them and carry weight in that they end with the woman choosing what makes her happy and it may not be the standard expectation. I appreciated the central themes being really asking yourself what you want out of life and challenging what you think you deserve throughout this novel. I felt the main character was relatable and was written like an actual person.
I loved the food interwoven throughout, not just because the food is awesome but it really worked as part of the storyline and added a great quirk to the book.
I loved the ornary Cecily Finn and that she was based on a real life grandmother as described at the back in 'Note from the Author'. I enjoyed how the intergenerational friendship that developed between the two as well as examining how we allow our friends to treat us.
I felt quite reflective after reading this both about what to do with my life and what to eat! Both good things!
