What a refreshing book ! Finally a book that lets our kids know it’s ok not to be first and the best at everything. I’m sure I’m not the only parent who has seen the disappointment on their children’s faces when they have to compete in sports day. My kids are not sporty. We are built for comfort, not speed ! I always tell them it’s the taking part that matters, as long as you try, just do your best. But no matter what I say, our culture says only the winners matter. Children’s books, until now, focus on winning, even the underdog somehow has to win. The Princess gets the prince etc etc. How refreshing that we can read a story to our children that reinforces its ok to be different. It’s ok to be unique. We all have different talents and interests and the important thing is to just be you. There’s only one you in the world and that’s what should be celebrated !
