This is a lovely book, with beautiful illustrations, but it isn’t novel. We have other similar books, and while I enjoyed reading it my 4-year old wasn’t particularly taken with it and seemed a little bored. She usually loves new books, but as she gets older is stating to prefer things with more of a clear narrative story. This book is more poetic, and while very pleasing didn’t capture her attention.

I think the calmness that the book resonates probably appeals more to parents than young children, but I’m hoping my daughter will grow into it as a pleasing bedtime read. Equally it might be soothing for a younger child who is less focused on stories and more focused on hearing their parents voices and enjoying a nice cuddle!

My daughter loves animals, I think she would have enjoyed it more if we didn’t have similar books already, such as ‘Kulu’.
