I really enjoyed this book.

There are 8 sections dealing with interesting facts about the history and usage of each subject. The writing is fun - short, modern and witty - accompanied by lovely cartoon illustrations.
The subjects are all likely to be of interest to young students - technology, sport, food, toilets! Lots of reminders about environmental issues also. I was pleased to see lots of inventions by female scientists included with reminders about how much more difficult it was for them to market their ideas in times gone by.

I read it in one sitting, as I’m sure most readers do. You just can’t help keep turning the pages to see what interesting new facts lie overleaf.

Whilst not a contender for replacing The Guinness Book of Records, it is definitely a great way to entice youngsters away from their screens and reading books.
Just one criticism - in several places, the author uses the wrong grammatical tense - stood instead of standing (p18) sat instead of sitting (p16 & 71)
Nevertheless this is definitely a good present for that young relative that you never know what to buy for.
