The World's First Rollercoaster and other Amazing Inventions by Mike Barfield and illustrated by Franziska Hollbacher is an absolutely fabulous book for children.
I loved reading through all the different inventions, and really enjoyed that they were organised under different themes - for example, House and Home, Food and Drink, Fun and Games etc.
The book is a4 size and a delight to either work through from start to finish, or to dip in and out of.
The illustrations by Hollbacher are wonderful and bright, and really bring the stories and facts to life. I can only assume this book must have been a joy to research, write and design.
At the end of the book there is space for young inventors to think about their own potential inventions - I mean who doesn't want to be a 'Junior Genius'!
